Creation of workplace noise maps around stationary noise sources in industrial facilities to aid in noise protection programs and plan noise expsosure reduction strategies.
Worker Noise Protection Program
Designing appropriate measures to reduce worker exposure to within regulatory limits. Implementing this type of noise control program requires an in-depth understanding of the limitations of the equipment with respect to noise control, combined with an analysis of the expected exposure parameters obtained using an industrial hygiene survey. Most regulations mandate the following hierarchy of noise controls:
- engineering controls protection (silencers, enclosures, pipe lagging, etc.)
- administrative controls (shift scheduling, hazardous area postings, etc.)
- ear protection as a last resort
